The Old Government House Hotel & Spa In St Peter Port, Guernsey

The Old Government House Hotel & Spa in the heart of St Peter Port is the only five-star hotel in Guernsey. Although it has operated as a hotel since 1858, its history dates back to 1796 when it was the official Governor’s residence for the island and the Bailiwick, which includes Alderney, Herm and Sark, until 1842. The last Lieutenant Governor to use it, as Government House, was General Sir James Douglas, after whom one the hotel’s modern meeting rooms is now named. The hotel has been extended and modernised over the years but has never lost its character and charm. It now offers 63 elegantly stylish rooms and suites, each individually designed to cater for a wide range of tastes and preferences.
The decor is in keeping with the historic nature of the building, and every room and suite includes all modern comforts. The Old Government House Hotel has maintained an excellent reputation for superb dining and a remarkable cellar for longer than anyone can remember. Guests can enjoy a variety of different culinary experiences from hearty breakfasts to light snacks and al fresco lunches to exquisite dining. Chef Simon and his team provide guests with a succession of delightfully presented treats, prepared from the finest local and seasonal ingredients. The hotel’s superb spa and well-equipped health and fitness centre also provide the ideal solution to burning off those excess calories. 
