Saaranha&Vasconcelos was opened in Lisbon, Portugal in 1985 by its founding partners, Carmo Aranha and Rosario Tello. Both responsible for the brand’s creation and development, the pair’s inspiration is derived from their travels around the world.
This helps them to create unique and sophisticated ambiances, achieving the higher demands of their discerning clients. In terms of design, architecture and even decoration, little was produced in Portugal while a lot stemmed from other countries, especially those in Europe. Novelties almost always came from Paris, London or New York because they were the main references of the time. They called it the ‘adventure of creativity’.
Resulting from the trips they made around the globe and the will and determination to create objects that made all the difference, the studio ventured into a range of exciting product lines. These include seasonal collections for the home and lifestyle in various materials such as acrylic, cone, stone or wood. It was guaranteed success.
By always displaying a strong connection to art, Saaranha&Vasconcelos set a benchmark with regard to architecture and interior design. Requests for the creation of residential ambiances soon began to emerge. Project after project, the studio was gaining valuable experience and expression. Consequently, admiration for its completed designs also generated project requests for business and shopping areas. The tailor made practice focused on the goal of overcoming and customising to achieve its clients’ dreams. This elevated the brand to its current high level.

Along with the design development of special furniture pieces for its projects, the studio decided in 2011 to create complementary products to enrich its ambiances. Thus, the following year a line of candles was launched with exclusive fragrances (Quase Branco/Off White and Novo Preto /New Black). In 2013 the music CD ‘Exciting Lisbon’ (a tribute to Lisbon) was released and more recently, in July 2015, the institutional book ‘30 Anos/Years’ was published to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the brand.
Brand Internationalisation
The internationalisation of the brand has been a process that has developed over the years. It was fully achieved in 2011 with the launch of SA&V International. With management based at its headquarters in Lisbon, there are also two operating centres in Zurich, Switzerland and San Francisco in the United States of America. The business in Zurich allows the studio to cover the entire European and Chinese markets, as the hub in San Francisco intends to cover the market of North America. Through this process SA&V has already carried out projects in Spain, Switzerland, the USA and China.
In addition to this international expansion, foreign clients living in Portugal have had a further favourable impact on Saaranha&Vasconcelos.

Consistent Team
Led by Carmo Aranha and Rosario Tello, together with younger partners Ana Camões and Francisca Perestrelo, Saaranha&Vasconcelos’s team consists of about 22 employees. These multi-faceted and multi-purpose people with their talent and commitment keep the brand as a symbol of creativity and quality at the highest level of all requirements.
