As part of his latest collection, Alexander Lamont has elevated the ‘Mighty Table’, one of his most popular designs, with an innovative tie-dye finish to the parchment that covers its top. Suji is the Japanese folding technique for tie-dye. Instead of knotting fabric, folds are created in the parchment which is then submerged for equal amounts of time into indigo dye to create a subtle pattern of diverging and converging lines. The Suji-dyed parchment is wrapped around nine separate blocks that are then joined together to make up the Mighty Table’s top.
The Mighty Table finished in Suji parchment is a feat of modern design using natural materials and traditional handcrafted techniques. The linearity of the two-toned pattern, the vibrancy and movement of the table’s surface and the boldness of its form create a strikingly modern art piece for contemporary living spaces.
