The annual Battle of Britain Airshow took place at the end of September at Duxford, near Cambridge, one the world’s best historic aircraft museums and in the famous airfield’s 100th year. The spectacle included a finale featuring a scramble of 12 Spitfires. Six Hurricanes also took to the skies and in total over 40 rare and historic aircraft took part. Almost 40,000 visitors attended the two-day event and a good number of people dressed up in authentic period dress to act out roles of aircrew, ground staff and home guard.
The museum is open to the public most days throughout the year where a number of flying examples of the many exhibits take to the air if the weather is suitable. Next year’s event will take place on September 22nd and 23rd.
