The National Trust continues to expand its programme of interactive events which this summer includes a major exhibition at Standen House in West Sussex devoted to the work of William Morris.
Designed for the wealthy Beale family by Morris’s friend, the architect Phillip Webb, Standen was furnished top to bottom with the designs of birds and hares, seaweeds and sunflowers produced by Morris & Co.
Standen also reveals that nostalgia for a disappearing natural world was already taking hold in the 19th century and how Morris feared the modern industrial world were destroying the environment.
Until October 31st at Standen House, Hoathley, West Sussex, UK
