Art: Life in Motion

Here is an odd show – pairing semi pornographic works by the famous Austrian expressionist Egon Schiele with photographs by the lesser known American Francesca Woodman, born 40 years after Schiele’s death.

Egon Schiele, Standing male figure, (self-portrait)
1914 | Gouache and graphite on paper, National Gallery, Prague

The justification is loosely speaking ‘expressionism’ – in the words of the Tate Liverpool: ‘exploring the remarkable ability of these artists to capture and suggest movement in order to create dynamic, extraordinary compositions that highlight the expressive nature of the human body’.

Until September 23rd at Tate Liverpool, UK
