Autosport is the first major car show in the UK each year, taking place at the NEC Birmingham in mid-January. The show, launched in 1991, covers every branch of motorsport from karting to Formula 1 and now attracts a huge number of people.
Visitors can choose to watch driving activities or take part themselves. If you’ve ever wondered how quickly you could change an F1 wheel, Pirelli ran a competition allowing visitors the chance to see if they could beat the professionals. Many track heroes and legends attended the four-day show, headlined by Formula 1 champion Nigel Mansell.
A group of disabled British servicemen and women launched their Invictus Games racing team in preparation to compete in the British GT series taking place on racetracks across the UK in 2018. The car controls have been modified and adapted to account for the drivers’ disabilities. The team is financed by the founder of the Superdry clothing brand, James Holder, who himself has competed in the 2016 British GT Championship.
The Performance Car Show featured many rare and exotic cars. Car customisers included Urban and Kahn who specialise in restyling Land Rovers, transforming the utility Defender into a chic cruiser. British supercar manufacturer Noble also displayed its M600 – a true rarity as the company produces less than 20 units a year from its Leicestershire factory.
