Robert Walker, Managing Director, Alexander James Interior Design Marrying a variety of trends, textures and colours was key to creating a balance between classic and contemporary styling within this drawing room.
We used a colour palette of rich blue with neutral accents for a statement interior, whilst incorporating our clients’ grand piano so that they could entertain guests. We worked with the client’s existing chandeliers, coordinating the rest of the metals in the room to match the bronze finish in the existing lights. These included inlays within the fitted bookshelf, the antique bronze framed mirror above the fireplace, and coffee and console tables. This was also echoed in the choice of accessories we used to dress the shelves and furniture.
Beautiful silk-effect wallpaper in a soft, warm, neutral colour was also used to create a luxurious backdrop, which added depth and texture. We introduced heavily interlined satin curtains with textured pelmets, accessorised with stunning bespoke crystal tiebacks for a touch of glamour. Individual threads were selected for the tiebacks to provide a perfect match to the rest of the scheme, and enabled us to personalise the length to suit the extraordinary height of the window.
