If you are looking for the antidote to the increasingly dull world of Formula 1 then I prescribe an annual dose of Goodwood Revival each September. Here fire breathing cars driven by oil smeared drivers entertain a crowd more than half of which are dressed in period costumes.
It is hard to imagine that the Goodwood circuit that used to host Formula 1 races back in the 40s and 50s was brought back to life from its half derelict state 20 years ago to a renaissance as the finest historic motor racing event in the world. Gentleman racers are joined by living legends of the track to battle for the trophies in cars that are quite often worth much more than central London homes.
The Sunday afternoon programme included a parade of Revival winners and the hour long RAC TT race where two drivers took turns to complete the endurance. The field of cars included AC Cobras, Jaguars and Ferraris of 60’s and 70’s vintage.
