Fruit Fusion
Anabela’s Fruit Gems collection continues the studio’s theme of turning waste into something of worth, using surplus fruits and vegetables to create lab-grown gemstones. Drawing from ancient methods of extracting natural pigments, each gem is made from colour compounds found in plants such as beetroot, spinach, dragon fruit, and spirulina.
These pigments are then stabilised using plant-based bio-resins from materials like corn husks and avocado seeds.
The process involves crushing, simmering, drying, and curing to form rough stones that are later cut and polished by hand. The collection also introduces Regenerative-Gemstones, made from autumn leaves and recycled lapidary offcuts. It’s a practical response to waste, and a reminder that value can be made, not just found.
