Getting Restless

We talk to Christian Trampedach, a young entrepreneur who has combined his passion for architecture and design with his business knowledge to become one of the strongest Instagram influencers within contemporary architecture.

Back in 2015, Christian Trampedach M.Sc. International Business and Politics was trying to find inspiration on Instagram for his work as a creative designer. Although he found lots of great high-end modern architecture projects, the content on Instagram always lacked fundamental information about the architects, photographers and locations. “It basically lacked information about elements which could allow everybody to find more in-depth inspiration,” he explains.

Christian launched Restless Architecture back in 2016 with an aim of creating a digital movement for contemporary living on Instagram. “It took quite a while to perfect the idea,” he says. “I created a thorough strategy which I modified along the way. It took a lot of testing to see what worked and what didn’t; especially because it was necessary to understand Instagram’s ever-changing algorithm. But, after half a year and with 100,000 followers, I really felt like the idea started to be embraced by the people.”

In just three years, Christian has built an audience of more than 1.1 million architecture-interested followers from all over the world. “Right now, I am growing about 9,000-10,000 followers a week on average while having one of the strongest engagement rates within the field of architecture on Instagram.”

Since the Instagram magazine was founded, it has featured countless interesting architectural projects from
both renowned and less known architects and photographers. Christian advises that the efficacy of Instagram all depends
on the content and the commitment of
the audience.

“When the content follows the essential rules of photography and videography, has one clear idea, and captivates the viewer immediately, Instagram posts and stories can have a strong impact,” he says. “As an example, I once created a story tour of a £19 million home in London. The architect got 1,600 followers from the story, and the real estate agent who was selling it got 700. So, it can be powerful if the content is targeted to the specific audience.”

So, what are Christian’s plans for the future development of Restless? “It has to operate independently from Instagram,” he explains. “Right now, I am getting talented people onboard to create an international media hub where the vision is to make the artistic communication easier for architecture firms by being a single provider of the market’s best photorealistic visualisations, award-winning architectural photographers, PR and SoMe.”
