Henry Dark, the young son of racing driver Tom Dark, a podium winner at this year’s Revival saw his protégé pedal to victory in the Settrington Cup. This is the greenest race at Goodwood where dozens of budding racing drivers try to emulate their fathers driving identical Austin pedal cars. The rest of the legendary Goodwood Revival was filled with tyre squealing, roaring engines and the occasional thump as cars slid their way around the famous track on Saturday – the first wet meeting I had ever encountered. What sets this event apart from any other historic race meet is how many people dress up in period costume just for the fun of it. This is pure escapism, adding to a most enjoyable experience with many visitors from overseas making the pilgrimage – even from as far away as New Zealand. In addition to the two and four-wheeled action on the circuit, there is also plenty of winged action with WWII aeroplanes flying overhead. The event has so much going on, it is impossible to take it all in within just one day.
