Style for high end lounges should be classical – it has quality with clean lines, translates well with any colour and texture and sits quietly but elegantly in the space provided. I do believe that a couch should use up the whole space, in a U-shape. It makes the room look bigger, it is not jarring to the eye, provides more than ample seating and creates that clean line without added extras placed strategically for added seating.
An L-shape layout works well with an oversize L-seater in a different style. Occasional side tables as opposed to a predictable coffee table in the centre, can be moved around, it adds interest and is light in weight, which makes it light to look at. A big hard filled ottoman is another way to avoid predictability. It has more functions – it can be added seating, used as a coffee table and used to put your feet up.
Colour is the tricky part – if using a bright colour, then keep it simple, namely no prints, with like for like scatters and neutral tables in an interesting, off the wall style and shape of tables.
Texture is king and should take first priority over colour. The wrong texture can make any colour or neutral look cheap and nasty. Velvets, heavy textured cottons and suede cottons work best and can last an eternity if maintained well and never date.
