Interiors: Chimneypieces with Charisma

Jamb has built a reputation with the world’s leading architects and designers for dealing in the finest antique and reproduction chimneypieces, fire grates and lighting. We find out more.

Will Fisher, the founder of Jamb, has painstakingly acquired one of the most extensive collections of antique chimneypieces in the country, including rare 17th century, Georgian and Regency surrounds, reflecting the architectural design and craftsmanship of William Kent, Isaac Ware, Robert Adam, Henry Cheere and Sir John Soane.

With the antique mantels at the backbone of the company, and by using highly skilled craftsman at its unique workshops, Jamb has been able to produce a collection of exceptional reproduction chimneypieces as seen in these images. All of the pieces in Jamb’s collections are individually bench made; hand carved to the highest standards, using traditional 18th-century skills and techniques. The range includes a breadth of designs from early Palladian architectural pieces through to finely carved Neo-Classical mantels and elegant Regency surrounds.

Throwing light

Uniquely, Jamb has its own foundry which allows the company to create reproduction fire grates to complement its collection of chimneypieces both aesthetically and historically. This foundry was also instrumental to the company launching a reproduction lighting collection where pieces of unparalleled historical authenticity could be made.

The lantern collection is hand crafted and has been inspired by many years of dealing in the finest antique lighting and their designs are created with rigorous historical accuracy. With an antique, one is often restricted to using a single piece, whereas the use of reproduction lanterns allows for sequences of multiple lights that many interiors demand.

Jamb lighting is made with meticulous attention to detail, ensuring that the gauge of the frame is as one would expect from an antique and the lost wax castings are just as accurate and sharp. The globe has become the signature shape of Jamb lighting, however other designs inspired by antique originals have been added to the collection for their timeless feel and exceptional beauty.

Every lantern is hand crafted and available in 12 finishes however, if the finishes are not suitable for a client then the company will customise them to match any colour sample. All Jamb lanterns come electrically wired for any country and can be supplied with hand finished chain and canopies.

Jamb is regularly commissioned to carry out bespoke work. This has a truly extensive nature, ranging from creating an entire collection of one-off chimneypieces for a Neo-classical mansion to the demands of designing and building a unique Gothic centrepiece for a Chateau in France. All bespoke work, whatever the scale is undertaken, with genuine knowledge and precision.

Jamb’s central London showroom houses antique and reproduction chimneypieces as well as fire grates, lighting and furniture and captures the classical English Country House aesthetic at the centre of the Jamb design ethos.
