Amplifying a history commonly associated with major American figures like Andy Warhol and Roy Lichtenstein, this groundbreaking survey explores Pop Art as a global phenomenon that was shaped by artists working in many different countries throughout the world.
With paintings, sculptures, assemblages, installations, prints, and films by 80 artists, the exhibition will examine the factors that shaped artistic activity in the social democracies of Europe, the military regimes of Latin America, and Japan in the aftermath of US occupation. It will include sections devoted to vital hubs of Pop activity in Argentina, Brazil, France, Germany, Japan, the UK and the US.
Until May 15th, 2016 at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, Philadelphia, USA
