Jakkalsvlei Private Cellar in South Africa

The Jonker family has been proud owners of Jakkalsvlei since 1972 and today it’s farmed by the third generation of Jonkers. The estate was named Jakkalsvlei (Jackal’s Marsh) because of all the jackals and foxes that can be seen roaming the mountains surrounding the farmland.

Although steeped in history, the farm today provides a modern, state-of-the-art tasting room and restaurant. Renowned chef Thomas Potgieter oversees the kitchen and is known for serving dishes with a traditional South African flair. With breathtaking valley and mountain views, the restaurant also presents some of the best sunsets that the Southern Hemisphere has to offer.
The farm’s 34-hectare vineyard is situated at the foot of the Langeberg mountains. The combination of the southern and northern slopes of the mountains as well as the close proximity to the ocean leads to the vineyards’ temperate climate and this, along with the restrictive soil, are key ingredients in growing the farm’s high-quality grapes.
Jakkalsvlei is known for producing wines of rare depth, longevity and elegance and this is mirrored in its award status at the Michelangelo International Wine Awards, as well as at one of the oldest wine shows in the world – the SA Young Wine Show. Visitors may now experience the true taste of South Africa’s Garden Route for themselves at Jakkalsvlei’s multi-award-winning cellar.
