London: Bankside

This new, design-led hotel on the south bank of the River Thames is in one of the capital’s most creative and dynamic neighbourhoods, just minutes from the City.

Set across six storeys and featuring modern mid-century interiors with subtle connections to the artistic heritage of its surroundings, Bankside is just a stone’s throw away from Tate Modern, the British Film Institute and Borough Market. The 161-room, seven suite hotel includes eclectic artworks and handpicked furniture in every room and public space. It connects to the vibrant local community through its art inspired interiors, neighbourhood restaurant and bar and ‘Maker in Residence’ programme.

This offers emerging artists the opportunity to showcase and create work on the ground floor of the hotel with direct access on to a communal courtyard. A schedule of rotating makers, a series of talks, previews and events throughout the year will offer resident guests and passers-by new experiences with each visit. Bankside has also commissioned artist Helen Gorrill to create three portraits of iconic people who have had a connection to the area.

Head chef Lee Streeton, formerly of 45 Jermyn Street, leads Art|Yard, an informal design-focused all-day restaurant. The menu celebrates the abundance of seasonal British produce with European influences, alongside classic cocktails, local beers and wines from off the beaten track.
