Inspired by natural forms and organic structures, Michelle Oberdieck loves to explore balance and asymmetry through shape, surface and colour. She came from a background of printed textiles but is now fascinated by creating fabulous free blown glass vessels. Some are based on merging hot molten coloured glass to achieve soft colour bleeds, and blurring lines, while other vessels are based on a reinterpretation of the classic Swedish technique of Graal. This is where a cup of layered glass colours gets cut and stripped away revealing a pattern. When it is re-blown, the image becomes distorted; each cut away area becomes a viewpoint offering up a different perspective as the viewer looks from the outside inside.
