During the 1992 Olympic Games held in Barcelona, this hotel was used to host heads of state, presidents, prime ministers and royal families from all over the world and has been a home from home for many famous faces ever since. In 2014 the Hotel Rey Juan Carlos I became part of the Fairmont Hotels & Resorts family and began an ambitious renovation project to include all rooms and suites, lobby and common areas.
It now features 432 elegant guest rooms and suites, five permanent and seasonal restaurants and lounges, 24 interior and exterior event spaces including a lake area and two outdoor swimming pools. The Fairmont Rey Juan Carlos I offers a choice of nine room types, ranging from quiet and spacious double rooms to the Royal Suite Polo. This includes a spacious living room complete with a grand piano, Jacuzzi and stunning views across to the Royal Polo Club.
Also to be found within the hotel grounds are the Royal Polo Club Fitness & Spa and a world-class convention centre in the Palau de Congressos de Catalunya. Named one of the world’s top 10 fitness centres by Condé Nast Traveler magazine, the spa delivers a wide range of relaxing and revitalising health and beauty treatments. It includes an indoor pool and water circuit, sauna, steam room and experience showers, all with separate male and female access.
