A restored farmhouse near Portugal’s south-west coast, where slow living, and warm hosting come together for stays shaped by nature, rest, and good food
Set among cork oaks and rolling fields in the rural town of Cercal do Alentejo, Quinta Camarena is a calm eco resort just 15 minutes from a wild stretch of coast, dotted with quiet beaches. The mood is relaxed and thoughtful, appealing to surfers, walkers, yoga lovers, and those drawn to good food and local wine. Life here moves at an easy pace, shaped by nature, comfort, and a strong sense of place.
The project is the work of Vera and Cam Camarena, whose lives crossed in New York City. A shared pull towards travel, the sea, and surfing gradually grew into a plan for something slower and more grounded. After years in demanding international roles, they settled in southern Portugal and restored a traditional farmhouse, giving it new purpose as Quinta Camarena.
Cam brings a creative eye to the interiors, artwork, and gardens, shaping spaces that feel warm and personal. Vera focuses on the details that define the stay, from handcrafted blankets to carefully chosen pieces by local makers. Together they host guests with generosity and care, creating a retreat rooted in wellbeing, simple pleasures, and honest hospitality within the Alentejo landscape and days shaped by light and seasons.
