This Special Edition Ferrari F12 is extreme even by Ferrari’s standards. It’s a tribute to Ferrari’s celebrated involvement in the Tour de France endurance road race that in the 1950s and 60s was dominated by the 1956 250 GT Berlinetta winning four consecutive editions. This is Ferrari’s ultimate expression of an extreme road car equally at home on the race track, yet regrettably only 799 of them are being built, tipping this special edition as a collector’s favourite. To create the F12 tdf, Ferrari has focused its development on the key elements of Ferrari’s DNA namely, engine, aerodynamics and vehicle dynamics. The result is a very special Ferrari with exceptional acceleration, road-holding and agility. The F12 tdf is powered by the highly accomplished 780 cv, naturally-aspirated V12.
This, to our minds, is one of the world’s greatest and finest looking engines. The car features a rear-wheel steering system – known as the ‘Virtual Short Wheelbase’ – which is integrated with the other vehicle dynamic control systems. This achieves the steering wheel response times and turn-in of a racing car whilst at the same time increasing the car’s stability at high speed. Bodywork, interior, engine, transmission, and running gear have all had a major work-over, the extensive use of carbon-fibre inside and out succeeding in reducing the F12’s total weight by 110 kg. The result? Record performance figures: 0-100 km/h in 2.9 seconds and 0-200 km/h in 7.9 seconds in addition to a substantial boost in lateral acceleration. The F12 tdf laps the Ferrari Fiorano test circuit in just 1 minute 21 seconds; one of the best ever road car lap times.
