There is only one thing missing when you compare the Tesla S100D with the fire and gas breathing V8s and that is the noise. There’s not a sound, even when you shoot from zero to 60 miles per hour in less than four seconds.
There is more to this car than just the silence, it is totally uncomplicated to drive. Approach the car and it automatically opens, sit in the driving seat, push on the drive lever opposite the indicator and you are away.
The S100D can go from London to the Scottish border on a single charge – a seven hour stretch. At least one comfort break is required and, with so many supercharge locations available in the UK and Europe, a 20-minute plug in and the batteries will be almost fully charged.
Most of the car’s controls are accessed by the 17-inch central screen which will operate the climate, suspension, entertainment and pinpoint all the available charging points. With no engine and gearbox up front, there is plenty of storage under the bonnet as well as the boot. The battery is warrantied for eight years and the 12,500-mile servicing is much less complicated than petrol or diesel-powered cars. The car is one of the safest on the road and is very unlikely to roll over.
With Tesla well established as the leading manufacturer of electrically propelled cars and the product being built to such a high standard, the marque is steadily growing in popularity. There is even a huge tax benefit for buying a Tesla through your company and the firm has an enterprise team on hand to give advice.
