The first new Bentley Bentayga customers received their cars at an exclusive handover event at Bentley’s headquarters in Crewe. The event took place in March and marked the official handover of the limited production First Edition models featuring enhanced specification with unique interior and exterior styling details. Customers were also treated to a tour of the Bentayga production factory, also in Crewe, to see how their cars are built. The Bentayga is the brand’s fourth model line, complementing the Continental GT, Flying Spur, and Mulsanne. It takes more than 130 hours to produce, whereas an average car takes about 17 hrs to build these days. Kevin Rose, Member of the Board for Sales, Marketing and Aftersales, commented,
“This is an historic day for Bentley and it is a great testament to all the work which has gone in to producing Bentayga, the fastest and most luxurious SUV in the world.
“The customers joining us for the event have followed the Bentayga journey since we proposed the idea of a Bentley SUV, and were among the very first in the world to put their names down on the order book for First Edition cars – many before they had even seen the finished model. Today their confidence in Bentley is repaid as they take delivery of a car which has been unanimously praised by the world’s media.”
The Bentayga is the proud achievement of a 4,000 strong work-force in Crewe where it is designed, engineered and handcrafted. Customer deliveries in other regions around the world are imminent and, having had a good look around the car in Geneva, we were mightily impressed. Bentley is producing 608 First Edition models, a number representing the metric output of the Bentayga 608PS (600bhp/447kw).
It is powered by Bentley’s 6.0 litre W12 engine, achieving a 0-60 mph time of four seconds, and a claimed top speed 187 mph which, according to Bentley, makes it the world’s fastest and most powerful SUV.
UK price of the standard Bentayga from circa £160,000
