First revealed to the public at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show, this very special McLaren high flyer is the lightest, most powerful, fastest and most track-focused, road legal model in the McLaren Super Series. It is also the most exclusive in the range, with only 500 coupés produced – all sold. Carrying the legendary ‘long-tail’ tag, first featured on the original McLaren F1 that won at Le Mans many years ago; lightweight, optimised aerodynamics, increased power, track-focused dynamics and driver engagement are its main features. The performance stats echo the message: 0-62 mph in 2.9 seconds; 0-124 mph in 7.9 seconds; and a top speed of 205 mph.
Weight saving of 100kg makes the 675LT the lightest in its class, and gives an impressive power-to-weight ratio of 549PS per ton. The 3.8-litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine produces a massive 666bhp at 7,100rpm, and an impressive 700Nm (516 lb ft) of torque and yet, its officially quoted as achieving a highly impressive average 24.2 mpg and the same emissions figure of the less powerful Super Series models, at 275g/km. However, speed is not at the cost of usability and practicality. McLaren has worked hard to retain usable road car drivability, and driver and passenger comfort levels. Lucky buyers have paid £259,500 for the privilege of owner status. Look out carefully for this McLaren icon when models start to filter on to our roads from mid-summer 2016 – it’ll be a rare sight!
