The Prado Museum in Madrid has been working hard to reopen galleries.
Its major show for 2020, Uninvited Guests, has now opened. The exhibition focuses on the role of women in the Spanish art system in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
There are three distinct sections. Images of women that were legitimised by the State through prizes, exhibitions and museums. Secondly, through major works of 19th century art. Finally, it tells the story of the epic journey that women were obliged to undertake in order to free themselves from the limitations imposed on them due to their sex.
