The property market in France is proving very attractive for buyers at present. The decrease of the euro compared to the pound and the dollar is encouraging investors to purchase in Europe and particularly on the French Riviera – an area combining secure investment with a fabulous lifestyle.
Jonathan Grey of Beauchamp Estates, Cannes reports that, as always, location is vitally important.
“Properties must be at the right price, in sought after locations, with nice living area and land size, a swimming pool and a view.”
He says that the same goes for apartments with the additional requirements of a terrace and a location within a secure development with a caretaker/porter.
Enquiries are coming in from everywhere in the world.
“We have many enquiries from Russian speaking countries, middle-eastern countries, the UK and Scandinavian countries,”
continues Mr Grey,
“with Americans once again starting to appear in the market. The most recent participants to enter the market have been Asian buyers. We also have some French clients but these tend to be for more regular properties.
“Taxation is improving with a significant decrease of capital gains tax, regardless of nationality (from February 25th this year non-French residents are now only liable for capital gains tax of 19%, not 33.3%, as was previously the rate). This change will encourage more international buyers to invest in France and should encourage some owners to sell their properties.”
