It was another vintage year for the organisers of the Goodwood Revival. The September fixture featured an impressive line-up of famous racing drivers pitting themselves against gentlemen drivers – many of whom were in cars were worth many millions of pounds, racing around the historic Formula One circuit of Goodwood.
The whole theme is retro with most of the visitors dressing up in vintage fashion of the early to mid 20th century. World War Two soldiers come face to face with Teds and Rockers, country gentlemen in plus fours and girls in polka dot pinafores.
There is so much ‘eye candy’ to enjoy both on and off track it is well worth taking it all in over two or three days. Over the road there is a huge number of marquees selling cars, accessories, clothing, themed paintings, furniture, models and books. Meanwhile, overhead, classic and wartime aircraft entertain the crowds when the cars take a break from racing.
One of the fun highlights on the track is where 50 boys and girls aged from five to 10 years drive their Austin J40 pedal cars in the Settrington Cup race. This is possibly the greenest race in the world with the cars only being powered by the sweat and tears produced by the drivers themselves.
