Following ‘Melchior’, MB&F’s first robot-clock co-created with clock specialists L’Epée 1839, the company has introduced his big brother ‘Balthazar’. The typical traits of these robot brothers, start with the jumping hours and sweeping minutes on their chests, driven by their mechanical brains beating under transparent domes. Balthazar will run nonstop for 35 days while his eyes scan the surroundings continuously in a 20-second retrograde action. Weighing in at over eight kilograms and standing 40 centimetres tall, his body is composed of 618 micro-engineered components. He also adds an extra horological complication: a dual hemisphere moon phase indicator, accurate for 122 years. But beware, Balthazar has a dark side – rotate his torso 180° and his friendly face becomes a terrifying skull, with menacing teeth and ruby-red eyes.
