Celtic Connections: Ballyfin

Home to the illustrious Coote Family for 100 years, Ballyfin which opened
as a hotel in 2011, has long been admired as one of the most
distinguished late Georgian houses in Ireland.

Located at the foot of the Slieve Bloom Mountains, a 90-minute drive from Dublin airport, Ballyfin has just 20 individually designed bedrooms and its newly renovated Gardener’s Cottage. This latest addition to the hotel’s accommodation provides a private residence environment with the comforts of an international hotel.

The Gardener’s Cottage is located adjacent to the main house with accommodation spread over two floors with glorious views out across Ballyfin’s 614 acres of private parkland, walled gardens, ancient wood and 28-acre lake. The theme and aesthetic is similar to that of the main house but with a slightly more relaxed feeling, reflecting its scale and location. Furnishings are grand yet contemporary blending seamlessly with the soft furnishings and carpets.

On the ground floor, guests can relax in a refined and comfortable sitting room featuring cosy open fireplaces at either end of the room and with large double doors which can be opened directly on to the outside lawn in the warmer months. Upstairs, there is one guest bedroom, which can be set up either as a double or twin, plus two bathrooms.

The Gardener’s Cottage will appeal to couples who are looking to enjoy all the amenities and luxuries afforded by a stay at Ballyfin yet who also wish to have a little more privacy. Although the cottage is just a short stroll from the main house, guests staying here will also have access to their own golf buggy to drive themselves around the estate at leisure or they can be driven by one of Ballyfin’s butlers.
