Finery: In black and white

Hancocks London was established in 1849 and specialises in the finest vintage and contemporary jewellery. The superb piece featured here centres on a beautiful old emerald-cut diamond, weighing 2.36 carats, surrounded by a geometric halo of onyx. Baguette diamond channel set shoulders wrap around the ring itself to create an elegant effect.

Guy Burton, director of Hancocks London, says, “Once settled on what was quite an ambitious design, our craftsman got to work on creating a halo around the diamond, with the design requiring it to be cut from just one single piece of onyx rather than eight individual pieces. This was quite a challenge and involved hours and hours of hand carving and seven attempts to create a seamless surround given the intricacy of the design.”
