Founded by Margaret Woodliff Wright, The Northumberland Milliner features a collection of headpieces and accessories inspired by the landscape and beauty of her home county. Margaret continues to enjoy major success at notable millinery competitions including the recent ‘Influence’ competition in association with Rachel Trevor Morgan, the British millinery designer who holds the royal warrant to supply hats to Her Majesty the Queen.
‘Shepherds Delight’ (featured here) is a headpiece inspired, using a little poetic license, by stunning sunsets over a northern city’s industrial landscape. Margaret explains, “It features an oversized saucer made from sinamay and is completely draped in a most beautiful sequin covered lace appliqué – this was a fantastic find, discovered in a wonderful Aladdin’s cave of a fabric store in De Pijp, Amsterdam. All set upon a funnel like crown which elevates the headpiece so the wearer looks through lace tendrils, a little reminiscent of clouds at sunset.”
